Innovation development process
To create new innovations and effectively solve the problems facing customers, GC designed a process for its research and development projects that sets clear criteria covering various aspects such as intellectual property, technological feasibility, investments and environmental impacts. The process consists of six steps:
The process of generating innovative ideas (idea generation) and screening innovative ideas (idea screening) leads to the first stage of resource management for the project.
Scoping and Feasibility Study
This process crystallizes an idea into a concrete business. The project is evaluated on its technical and business merits to ensure that the investment is beneficial to the company.
Lab Scale Experiment
This step transforms innovative ideas into new product or process developments. This step will determine the direction of development, both in the inhouse laboratory and when co-innovating with partners outside the company.
Large Scale Development
This is a continuous development step from the laboratory to larger trials in conditions close to the actual production process.

GC focuses on the research and development of plastic resins, including plastic compound pellets, which are used to produce a variety of products to meet the needs of consumers. Our team of researchers create new product innovations to enhance our competitive position in the global market.

The Innoplus HD5050S was designed with an ultra-narrow molecular weight structure (Narrow MWD), enabling its use in high-speed filament and tape production processes, improving the fiber’s ability to stretch. The resulting fibers have increased toughness and strength while production controls reduce any gel and foreign particles alleviating any chance of a fiber shortage during the molding process.
The production of these ultra-fine fibers can be used in a wide variety of applications such as agricultural netting, industrial rope, fishing nets, and canvas and plastic woven bag packaging.
PlastMate PP07605JBK is suitable for the injection molding process, which is tested by leading motorcycle parts manufacturers without any issues related to the size and shape of the workpiece, and which passes the specified criteria. The product’s unique formulation has been designed to meet the environmental properties required by automotive standards and can therefore be used for various exterior automotive applications. The parts have a high flexural modulus, high impact resistance and a glossy look.
Innoplus LD2426K was developed to correct the discoloration in film. The relationship between the amount of the anti-oxidizing additive and the anti-aging properties of the film was studied. The GC team discovered that adding the proper amount of anti-oxidizing additives could help slow film discoloration.
GC’s research team developed the appropriate ratio of an LLDPE and HDPE compounding formula to form into squeeze tube products. This project was developed to improve the product molding processes for customers.
HD1010S is a polyethylene resin for dual-component nonwoven fibers, used in hygiene products that require a soft touch such as the front surface of baby diapers, sanitary napkins and adult diapers, etc.
HD1010S was designed and developed to have an ultra narrow molecular weight structure and is suitable for use in both the staple fiber production process and the spunbond nonwoven production process.
This bio-plastic compound, made from natural polylactic acid, was designed by using an induced crystallization principal. The compound can be used at a high temperature (> 100°C) and is bio-degradable, making it suitable for producing packaging to hold hot foods and as a microwavable food container including:

GC focuses on the development and improvement of the production process. Our research team is involved in finding the causes, analyzing and suggesting solutions, and applying new technologies to improve the production process and reduce environmental impacts.

GC developed its new adsorbent material in collaboration with the Center of Excellence on Petrochemical and Materials Technology (PETROMAT), a nationally renowned research center in the field of petrochemicals and materials.
A research team from GC’s Upstream Innovation worked closely with experts from PETROMAT to design the adsorbent materials which selectively remove chloride gas contaminated in the process stream of the Aromatics plant. The newly developed adsorbent offers superior chloride removal efficiency compared to the current adsorbing material. In addition, this new adsorbent delivers a significant operating cost advantage when compared with current commercial uses. The adsorbent formula has been patented as well, allowing GC to benefit from licensing and commercialization in the future.
The Furnace Optimization Model was developed using the principles of the Advanced Analytics Model, the world's first project to optimize the production process of olefins crackers. This system can increase a factory's margin and reliability (furnace run length) by adjusting the condition of the furnace to optimize the product portfolio to the maximum margin, according to the current market situation while maximizing furnace availability (run-length).
A team of researchers developed an optimized heat exchange system (Fin-Fan) in the aromatics plant. Using a simulation model with the CFD installed Inlet bell ring at the bottom of the fan improved air flow into the plane of the fan blades. More than 24 Inlet Bells have been installed to reduce energy consumption.

Over the past century, average temperatures have continuously increased leading to global warming with carbon dioxide as the major contributor. To deal with this urgent problem, GC and VISTEC began a collaboration in 2016 on carbon dioxide utilization under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Khamphee Phomphrai starting with carbon dioxide and olefins, catalysis processes for valuable products such as lactones, unsaturated carboxylic acids, self-healing polyurethanes and cyclic carbonates. In addition to five filed patents, the joint research team received Gold Level PTT Group RD&T Achievement Awards in 2017. VISTEC, in partnership with GC, strongly believes in promoting prosperity in Thailand through science and technology.
PLA filaments are made from natural and environmentally friendly raw materials. They are the most popular material used in FDM 3D printers because they are odorless, easy to use, and suitable for making prototypes. A team of researchers has developed a composite biofilament prototype based on polylactic acid and carbon fibers that demonstrates resistance, durability and can be produced into a specific size.
